MVL I
Max von Laue Secondary School
Berlin Steglitz-Zehlendorf
The conversion and extension of the school building created the basis for an integrated secondary school with an all-day service. The roof of the old building has been converted and expanded into a teachers’ lounge. The ground floor was planned as a multi-purpose hall, which is used as a dining hall, auditorium and theater space. This building component was created as concrete supports construction with solid concrete floors. A special feature is the–planned initially flush with the wall visible–suspended construction of reinforced concrete truss, which enabled the creation of the Mensa. Behind the stage installation of the hall there is another room that serves as stage storage and as a preparation room at the same time. A glass bridge part creates a weather-proof link between both the old and the new buildings. In conjunction with a new lift, this bridge now makes also the old building accessible.
